The Leo

Woven Silk

The Leo top is a design that is very close to my heart. I designed a first version of it after finishing my education as a bespoke tailor at the Berlin Opera Foundation. During my time there, I learned the technique of weaving silk strips into a new fabric with a chequered chessboard-like pattern while working on the costumes for the Romeo and Juliet ballet and I absolutely fell in love with it.

Handwoven and carefully crafted

For this top, over 30 strips of silk satin are torn, folded and woven into the chessboard pattern by hand. A laborious task, but worth the effort. The Leo top is cut from one single piece of fabric wrapping seamlessly around the body. With the only seams being the shoulder seams, the pattern of the weave is in its most continuous and undisturbed form.

Open Back

The top has a slightly cropped length and an open back closed with silk covered buttons at the nape, making it a highly versatile evening piece that can be worn either with trousers or skirts.
